Barcode scanner resolution

Edit:    Click: Times   Date:2026-4-28

How to calculate the resolution of a barcode scanner? I think many friends may not know how this resolution comes about. The resolution of a barcode scanner needs to be analyzed from three aspects:

1. Optical part;
2. Hardware component;
3. Software part.

That is to say, the resolution of the scanning gun is equal to the sum of optical resolution and software difference processing.

1. Optical resolution is the actual number of light points that the optical components of a barcode scanner can capture per square inch of area. It refers to the physical resolution of the scanner's CCD (or other optoelectronic devices) and is also the true resolution of the scanner. Its value is obtained by dividing the number of points that can be captured by the optoelectronic devices by the maximum horizontal scanning size of the scanner. A scanning gun with a resolution of 1200DPI often has an optical resolution of only 400-600DPI. The resolution of the expansion part is jointly generated by hardware and software, and this process is generated by analyzing the image through a computer and mathematically filling in the blank parts (also known as interpolation processing).
2. Optical scanning and output are one-to-one, what is scanned is what is output. After being processed by computer software and hardware, the output image will become more realistic and have a higher resolution. At present, most of the scanning guns sold on the market have software and hardware expansion functions for resolution. Some barcode scanners advertise 9600 × 9600DPI, which is only the maximum resolution obtained through software interpolation and not the true optical resolution of the scanner. So for a scanning gun, its resolution can be divided into optical resolution (also known as optical resolution) and maximum resolution. Of course, what we care about is optical resolution, which is the hard work.

We say that the resolution of a barcode scanner is as high as 3800DPI (which is the sum of optical resolution and software difference processing), which refers to the ability to capture 3800 × 3800 pixels on a 1 square inch scanning surface when inputting images with the scanner. The scanning area is 1 inch square, and the image size generated by scanning with a resolution of 3800DPI is 3800Pixel × 3800Pixel. When scanning images, the higher the scanning resolution, the finer the generated image effect, the larger the generated image file, but also the more interpolation components.
