Absolute encoder
Absolute value encoder is an encoder that directly converts signals into digital codes. It uses discrete digital codes to represent the absolute value of the signal, without involving changes or increments in the signal. Regardless of forward or reverse rotation, and regardless of single or multiple rotations, the data read by the control device from the encoder at any time is the distance or angle value between the current position and zero point. The controller does not need to monitor and record it at all times, and can also remember when the power is off. In the event of a power outage, if the position or angle changes, the updated value can be read after power on.
The data of the absolute value encoder is usually stored in the encoder's memory and read by the controller when it needs the data.
Incremental encoder
An incremental encoder is an encoder that converts changes or increments in a signal into digital code. It encodes digital codes based on signal changes and represents the degree of signal variation by recording the increment of the signal. When at rest, the encoder does not output any signal. Only when the encoder rotates, it outputs a signal data for each set angle value it rotates. The controller continuously records the number of this signal and calculates it with the zero point to obtain the current angle value data
The data of incremental encoders actively sends pulse signals when the position changes, and the encoder itself does not store this data.
